I was looking through my Blog’s search engine terms and saw that a lot of people are looking for the ability to play IceFilms on their iPad 2’s. So I went to Google and searched for the same thing and saw that it linked to my IceFilms and Apple T.V 2 blog. Going through the other links I found that it was difficult to find how to do this, but it wasn’t listed as an ‘iPad 2’ solution even though it works for it. So, I decided to make this post and solve that issue, it does involve a few things so you can either read how to do it, or skip down below to the video.
I’ll have it up soon. It’s up!
Start by downloading OPlayer HD on your iPad 2. This app does cost $4.99. I’ll leave it at that. After installing and opening OPlayer HD click on the Web Browser and type in http://www.icefilms.info as soon as it loads click at the bottom center to save it to your bookmarks. Much like the Apple Tv 2 and IceFilms select which program you wish to watch. To make it simple and to prove it works, click on the T.V shows link at the top right of the page, and select How I met Your Mother and choose the 1×1 Pilot. Search for the MegaUP source and click on the first one. (you can choose any in the future) From there, it will give you a Mega Upload link, select that. If you are on the free account, you will see the 45 second countdown, wait for that to complete and select it, (it will say ‘Regular Download’) from there it will give you the option to either Play the File or Download it, select Play.
Now sometimes, it will take you to an ad and this ad will ask for your number, if this happens, just click on File Servers at the top and start the process over, I assure you it will eventually work.
Some notes: Accept for a flukes, you cannot run two instances of MegaUpload at the same time from the same home network. So if you are planning to watch something on your iPad 2 and someone else is using the Apple T.V 2, it will not run. I tried multiple times for this to work and for some reason, 1 time as a fluke it did, I have not been able to determine how or why, and was not able to replicate it. So take it for what’s its worth.
There is a skip in the video, the website is, http://www.icefilms.info
Thanks to ‘kylekalman’ from the IceFilms forums for the information!
At the time I wrote the above, I was aware that a different method existed to watch IceFilms on the iPad 2 but it does involve Jailbreaking so I wanted to offer a solution to watch IceFilms for those that did not have or want to Jailbreak their iPad 2.
To install XBMC on your iPad 2 and have IceFilms working through that, first you must have your iPad 2 Jail Broken. Assuming you have that, visit this site to get XBMC and follow the instructions. If you don’t, here are the instructions to Jailbreak your iPad 2.
This is not an instructional video, it just shows you how it looks, I’ll post one up when I make it.
Then in order to be able to SSH into your iPad 2 follow these instructions
How to SSH into iPad
STEP 1 – Install OpenSSH
*This step is same for both Windows and mac users.
First of all you need to install openSSH into iPad from Cydia. To do so:
- Open the Cydia
- Go to search tab and search for OpenSSH.
- Tap on the the OpenSSH from the search results
- Tap the Install button at the top right corner and then Tap the Confirm button to Install the OpenSSH. Once done, reboot your iPad.
From there, you have to open and install WinSCP and put in your I.P address and the username: ‘root’ and the password: ‘alpine’
Based on the instructions from Jailbreaking the Apple T.V 2 (including finding your I.P address) SSH the IceFilms repository on to your iPad to into the folder private/var/mobile and then go to your iPad 2 start XBMC and install.
If you are unsure how to do this, it is the same process as the Apple T.V 2. Scroll down to the last two videos.Follow @RajRandev
